On June 27, the South Pacific High covered Okinawa’s main island, bringing sunny skies. In the fishing port on Ojima Island in Tamagusuku, Nanjo, the work of sun-drying purpleback flying squid began with the end of the rainy season. On June 27, Ayano Taira of Taira Seafood and Daiki Kobayashi, a fisherman, were hard at work hanging squid out to dry under the hot summer sun.
Taira says, “These make great snacks for kids. For the adults, they also go wonderfully with alcohol.”
