On July 20, the permanent exhibition rooms of the Okinawa Prefectural Peace Memorial Museum welcomed its eight-millionth visitor–Aichi Prefecture resident Yasutaka Kojima, 48, and his family. The museum’s director, Sayuri Maekawa, presented the Kojima family with a commemorative gift. The museum opened in April 2000.

Kojima commented, “I’m honored. I brought my children to the museum hoping they will find pacifism in their hearts. I want the kids to become members of a peaceful future world.”

Director Maekawa stated, “We were able to share the preciousness of peace with the eight million visitors by telling the realities and lessons of the tragic Battle of Okinawa. We will continue our efforts in diversifying the languages available in the exhibits for our audience and producing new exhibits to increase visitorship.”
