The Houston Okinawa Kenjinkai , Texas, USA, donated 138,000 yen to Eiki Senaha, chairman of the "Association for the Preservation and Public Access of the 32nd Army Headquarters Bunker.
The 32nd Army Headquarters Dugout is a series of tunnels built by the Japanese Imperial Army during World War II under Shurijo Castle in preparation for the invasion of Okinawa by U.S. forces.
Senaha handed out a pamphlet (English version) about the 32nd Army Shelter and the Battle of Okinawa prepared by the association and explained that the prefecture is considering preserving and opening the 32nd Army Shelter under Shurijo Castle to the public in response to the fire at Shurijo Castle.
The Okinawa Kenjinkai expressed sympathy for the importance of telling the story of the Battle of Okinawa through the shelter.
